This young cherry finch has been well fed by its parents as you can see by the bulging crop, where food is stored before it is digested.
Cherry finches are just one of several species of Australian finch that can be seen at the nature centre. Although they aren’t the most colourful of our finches they have a subtle beauty. The sexes are similar but only the male has black markings on his chin. They are named after the dark red markings on their forehead.
