Critically endangered Annam leaf turtles move

This weekend we moved our Annam leaf turtles from the Discovery Room to a larger pool at the top of the nature centre.

These freshwater turtles are found only in Vietnam where most of their habitat has been lost to agriculture and this combined with collection for sale as food has led to them being classed as critically endangered. Turtles are one of the world’s most threatened groups of animals with around half of all the species in danger of extinction.

Our turtles were bred at Chester Zoo in 2009.
