Pionus chick

Here’s one of our blue-headed pionus chicks. As with most parrots, pionus chicks develop slowly and will be about ten weeks old before they leave the nest. Below is a photograph of the male pionus, the sexes look alike but the female spends most of the time in the nest box with the chicks. There are seven species of pionus, all of which are found in South or Central America.
