Koklass Pheasant

These are pictures of our male koklass pheasant, a species that inhabits the forested moutain slopes of Asia from Afghanistan to China. They are still common in the wild but were once considered hard to keep in captivity and are still rarely exhibited. The male has long feathers on his head which he is able to erect as part of his display. The pair we keep are bold and can generally be seen in their aviary; they love greenfood and ours really enjoy apples and berries.
