A critically endangered frog

This golden mantella is one of a group that we currently maintain behind the scenes. These tiny amphibians are a critically endangered species, that is found only on the forested mountain slopes of Madagascar. At present they are mainly theatened by the deforestation.

Like the dart frogs of South America they are brightly coloured, active during the day and poisonous.
