Ice breaking

Walking on water

The current cold snap creates a lot more work throughout the day ensuring the animals have access to water. All the outside taps and automatic waterers are frozen so as well as breaking the ice on the troughs we have to carry water from our kitchen to re-fill the containers. As one cow can drink over 30 litres of water a day so that is quite a lot of water for us to move around.

Although the lake is largely frozen the waterfowl’s movement during the night keeps an area free of ice.
