Madagascan Tree Boa

Madagascan tree boa

Madagascan tree boas give birth rather than laying eggs; when born these snakes are red but they develop their duller adult colouring in their first year.

Despite being called tree boas they spend a lot of time on the ground, heading up trees at night to hunt for birds and small mammals.

Our boas were bred at Colchester Zoo and are part of a European breeding programme.
