Katydids Hatch

Newly hatched katydid

Today has seen hatchlings emerge from the first batch of giant Florida katydid (Stilpnochlora couloniana) eggs; these were laid on the 20th of October last year so have taken 80 days to hatch.

The young measure just a few millimetres but look just like colorful miniature versions of their parents.
