A Fish Nest

Gourami nest

This is a nest built by one of our Three-spot gourami; he constructs the nest from vegetation into which he blows bubbles. Once completed the female deposits her eggs into this floating construction which will then be guarded by the male until the fry are few days old.

Many fish construct nests, these can range from simple scrapes on the river bed to elaborate affairs such as that built by our native three-spined stickleback.
