Mousebird Chicks

Fledgling speckled mousebird

Our first chicks of the year fledged today in the shape of two speckled mousebirds. These birds spent had spent the summer outside in the African finch aviary but were moved inside in the Autumn, and it was then they decided to nest.

The untidy nest was largely constructed from coconut fibre in a conifer.

Their diet consists largely of fruits and leaves, ours especially enjoy apple and grapes.
