TB tests for the cows

White-park cow

This week our white park cattle underwent their bovine tuberculosis test (TB). As there is a small chance that a cow with TB could pass it onto a person our herd are checked  annually. This involves the cows being given an injection of an extract from the bacteria that causes bovine TB and the thickness of the skin at the injection site is measured. Three days later the site is re-examined and if the animal has been infected with TB the skin will have thickened. Happily, our herd was all clear of any infection.
