Yesterday was very hot, reaching over 30C in many parts of the country. We were all feeling the heat down at the Nature Centre, with most of the animals seeking shelter in the shade.
Even our sun-worshipping meerkats were feeling a bit too warm and took to pressing their bellies on the shady sand to cool down!
As well as ensuring all the animals had plenty of water and shelter, we also thought up a few other ways of keeping them cool. We made blood ice cubes for the carnivores, fruit ice lollies for the herbivores and gave ice-cold pieces of fruit to everyone.
We also provided showers…
…and baths complete with rubber duckies!
It looks like that might be it for our summer this year already, but if it does come back again, we know how to keep cool!
