Most of us have been at home a lot more than usual this year! As part of our award winning Becoming Zoostainable initiative, this half term we are introducing STAR ‘Switch To A Reusable’ At Home! There are lots of little changes that we can make in our homes to save money and also save the planet! If you look in your bin (Gross…We know!) what are you throwing away? Is there anything that you could swap for a reusable item instead? We are going to share some information and fun activities throughout the week to encourage everyone to be a STAR at home!
First up is our handy guide of how to stay sustainable during these challenging times!

Did you know that one single-use facemask has a lifespan of approximately 450 years?! If everyone in the world used one disposable facemask a day for one month there would be another 129 billion facemasks left on our planet – for 450 years!! That is A LOT of plastic pollution littering our wild habitats.

As you can see from the photos above, taken by one member of staff, it’s already happening in our local area! You can make a difference by ‘Switching To A Resuable’ facemask! There are so many fun colours and patterns, they feel much nicer, they are more economical and you can even make your own! Look out for tomorrow’s post to learn how!
