Becoming Zoostainable is our award winning intiative raising awareness on sustainability issues from sustainable palm oil and deforestation to plastic pollution. Visitors can look out for 3D signage throughout their visit and engage in our pop up activities and events!
STAR ‘Switch To A Reusable’
In 2019 Tilgate Nature Centre’s main sustainability focus was on plastic pollution and the STAR campaign was launched, encouraging visitors to ditch disposables and switch to a reusable. We promoted reusable items through our public talks, created a pledge tree and fun engagement activities about plastic pollution! We also shifted our shop suppliers to have a more eco friendly focus; so there are now lots of reusable items available to purchase!
STAR At Home!
In 2020 we are promoting the use of resuable items at home and encouraging creative activities such as making your own face mask, halloween costume and beeswax wraps!
Tilgate Nature Centre is very proud to announce that it has been awarded a Gold Sustainability BIAZA Award for its Becoming Zoostainable work and STAR campaign. The BIAZA (British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums) Annual Awards showcase a wide range of exciting projects from BIAZA zoos and aquariums.
